CO2 Fractional laser Vs. non-laser IPL method !
In this article, we have compared the two most popular devices for skin rejuvenation and removing wrinkles. These devices are used to improve the radiance and skin smoothness, eliminate dark circles and blemishes on the face, reduce facial wrinkles and reduce sagging, loosening, and increase the firmness of the skin. Each of these lasers has some characteristics that affect each person’s choice. we compare these devices, so that patients are more aware of their choice in consultation with their dermatologist. CO2 laser resurfacing makes it possible for patients to have healthy, younger looking skin with minimal post-treatment down time. The laser delivers a therapeutic matrix of tiny beams of light energy to the top and mid layers of the skin with minimal discomfort resulting in:
– immediate shrinkage of damaged skin,
– softening of fine lines and wrinkles,
– removal of age and sun spots, and
– amazing results on acne scars.
Fractional means that only a fraction of the skin surface is exposed to the laser beam, leaving untreated skin around each treated micro spot. The beneficial effects of the laser beam extend under the skin surface to stimulate new collagen production throughout the area. This procedure is performed with a topical anesthetic cream and patients will have only 4 to 5 days of downtime. Patients will see continued reduction of fine lines and wrinkles over the next six months as new collagen is formed.
Lumenis® IPL Photorejuvenation treatment allows us to provide significant results on a wide range of skin concerns such as age and sun spots, freckles, birthmarks, rosacea and broken capillaries. IPL is not the same as laser treatments because unlike laser, IPL uses a very wide range of light wavelengths that are placed on the surface of the skin. The wavelength IPL is chosen according to your skin type and your skin concerns.this unique technology (IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) easily and effectively eliminates spots, discolorations, and unwanted blood vessels.
IPL Photorejuvenation treatment works on your skin to correct your imperfections and also stimulates collagen and elastic fiber production during a series of treatments. Some skin disorders, such as such as shallow pigmentation and age/sun spots can be cleared with 1 to 2 sessions of treatment. Normally, 2-6 sessions with an interval of 2-4 weeks are necessary to achieve the desired results for most skin concerns.
Immediately after the treatment, you may experience some redness, depending on the severity of your treatment. The redness usually goes away in a few hours. In most cases, you can apply makeup immediately and you can resume daily activities on the same day. Normally, you should avoid direct sunlight for a few days after treatment and apply sun screen.
Although IPL has a longer history than the Co2 laser. But Co2 technology is newer and therefore more effective in softening of fine lines and wrinkles and for hair removal.
Also, with Co2 fractional laser you achieve more desired results for most skin concerns in fewer sessions than IPL. But We have to notice that it’s also more troublesome. After the Co2 Fractional Laser the skin is injured. And you need to rest at home for few days.
This type of laser as same as other lasers (affirm laser,..) is based on Fractional-resurfacing technology.
But the columns of destruction are larger, so it can be seen with the naked eyes. If we want to choose the strongest skin rejuvenation device for the skin concerns, Fractional CO2 laser is the right choice. Although the risk is a bit higher, the results are clearer and faster. If the doctor has enough experience and skill in doing it, there will be no problem. Especially Co2 Fractional laser is suitable for deep acne scars.and also it’s very effective for deep wrinkles around the mouth.
