Appropriate size of breast implants<\/span><\/p>\n

Breast implant size in breast augmentation surgery:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Breast augmentation surgery (augmentation mammoplasty) is a surgical procedure to increase the size and shape of the breast in women.<\/span><\/p>\n

Breast augmentation is a relatively safe procedure. However, like other cosmetic surgery procedures, there are certain risks and complications associated with this procedure that should be discussed in detail with the surgeon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Breast prostheses also make accurate mammograms difficult to perform, and patients who have breast implants may need special mammograms or additional ultrasounds.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Appropriate size of breast implants\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Obviously, the size of the prosthesis is a personal choice. However, if you ask your surgeon to perform a prosthesis that does not fit your body, do not be surprised if he or she does not perform the surgery.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Implant sizes start at about 230 cc for a small increase or for someone who has good breast tissue themselves, and can go up to 800 cc or more.<\/span><\/p>\n

A good way to determine the best size for your body is to remove the plastic bags and fill them with a millimeter-sized container filled with water. Insert the bag into your bra and see how it feels (do not use a bra that is too tight as it will not give you a precise sense of the size of the prosthesis).<\/span><\/p>\n

Arrange to stay in the hospital for at least 1 day before surgery and then ask someone close to you to take care of you. You will not be able to do anything for at least the first 48 hours!<\/span><\/p>\n

Breast augmentation surgery is usually done in a surgical center or a hospital. General anesthesia is used for this surgical procedure. Surgical incisions are made in such a way that they are not as noticeable as possible. The prosthesis is inserted through a small incision around the areola (nipple), under the armpit, in the folds under the chest near the chest. Surgery usually takes one to two hours.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this surgery, the plastic surgeon must make every effort to minimize the incision so that the scars are as invisible as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the incision is made, your breast tissue and skin are lifted, and the breast implant is placed directly behind the breast tissue or under the chest wall muscle (pectoralis muscle). The breast implant are placed under your chest. Placing implant behind the chest muscle may reduce the chance of the capsule contracting (scarring around the breast implant makes it harder). The placement of the prosthesis behind the muscle may interfere less with the mammogram. Placing the prosthesis behind the muscle may be more painful for a few days after surgery than placing the prosthesis directly under the breast tissue. Discharge tubes are probably used for a few days after surgery, and very few scar scars may remain.<\/span><\/p>\n

AFTER THE SURGERY<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The pain can be quite intense for the first 24-48 hours, although the intensity is different with every person. The surgeon will prescribe pain pills<\/span><\/p>\n

You will not be able to sleep in any position other than propped up in a semi-sitting position or flat on your back for 7-10 days. Make sure you have plenty of pillows in your bed for support.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stitches are used to close the incisions, which may also be taped for greater support. A gauze bandage will be applied over your breasts to help with healing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Within several days, the gauze dressings will be removed and you may be given a surgical bra, if not, you should buy a bra (prior to your surgery) that will give you very firm support in your anticipated new breast size. If you have your incision placed in the crease of your breast, do not wear a support bra with underwires (until your breasts heal) as they will cut into your incision.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the first few days after surgery, your breasts will swell and become almost firm. Do not worry, they become softer about 4-5 days after surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some women also experience a burning sensation in their nipple for about two weeks, but the bruising subsides as the bruising fades.<\/span><\/p>\n

Your stitches will be removed in a week to 10 days, but your breast swelling may take three to five weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, when removing the bandage from the incision site, you may feel that the breast implant is too high! Do not worry about the location and condition of the breast prosthesis. They sit on your chest for the first few weeks and then gradually settle into place.<\/span><\/p>\n

Follow your surgeon’s advice about when to start regular exercise and activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Your breasts will probably be sensitive to direct stimulation for two to three weeks, so you should avoid touching too much.<\/span><\/p>\n

Your scars will be hard and pink for at least six weeks. Then they may remain the same for several months, or even appear to have expanded. After several months, your wounds begin to fade, although they never completely disappear.<\/span><\/p>\n

Starting around the second or third week after surgery, you should have a deep breast massage daily. This can help prevent scar tissue from forming around the breast implant (capsule contraction). This massage should be done daily for the first six days and then weekly.<\/span><\/p>\n
